CUSTOM FURNITURE
CONSTRUCTIVITY builds custom furniture to fit in particular spaces or to perform certain functions.
Tables
CONSTRUCTIVITY made this little table to sit nicely by an easy chair, holding books, magazines, remotes, and beverages within close reach at just the right height. It is made from solid oak with a band of solid walnut in the middle of the top. The two woods provide a nice contrast but also complement each other. The legs are tapered for a nice look, and the stringers among them are mortised into the legs for strength and a pleasant appearance. A clear transparent polyurethane finish is quite durable and impervious to moisture and stains.

This table fits in the hall against the wall at the bottom of a curved staircase. The space was somewhat awkward due to the curved wall with an adjacent door, but CONSTRUCTIVITY was able to build a 3-legged table of quartersawn oak to fit the space exactly. The table has a small drawer, tapered legs, and is finished naturally with varnish and wax. I am told it has proper feng shui.
This table sits well next to a chair or a bed. CONSTRUCTIVITY made this table in the Craftsman/Mission style, out of oak and walnut, with a varnish and wax finish. Two drawers hold small items, and the shelf can be used for books or magazines.
This is a sideboard for a dining room, that CONSTRUCTIVITY made from mahogany with a very dark finish. On the left is a picture of the table before the stain and varnish had been applied. On the right is the table with the finish. The table features nicely curved legs and a shelf beneath.
This is a plant stand made from quarter-sawn white oak and stained with a pecan color to match the dining room table and chairs below. It is in the Arts & Crafts style, something of an original design. It has some really beautiful ray patterns in the wood.
This work table/desk goes with a bookcase that hangs on the wall above. The table is made from oak, with black ubatuba granite inserts leftover from a kitchen project (cooktop and sink cutouts). It has two small drawers.
Dining Chairs
These chairs are a set of dining room chairs that CONSTRUCTIVITY built. They will eventually have a matching table for them to sit at. The chairs are similar to the Stickley Spindle Chairs (Numbers 376 and 384) as shown below (scan from the Stickley catalog), but the bottom stretcher has been modified to go across the lower rails instead of being under the seat front and back. I think this will make the chairs more comfortable, and does not compromise their style. These chairs will get leather cushions similar to those in the catalog pics. The chairs are made from quarter-sawn white oak and have a pecan stain with several coats of varnish and a final waxing. The side chairs have walnut caps on the legs, and the arm chairs have walnut pegs in the arms above the front legs.
Dining Table
The table is not done yet, got the bottom done but can't get wood to finish the top!
Shoe Shine Stand
This new men's spa needed a shoe shine stand. CONSTRUCTIVITY designed and built this stand. It has a large drawer underneath and two doors on the sides to reach a storage space under the seat. Just the thing to get your boots shined!
Sideboard
CONSTRUCTIVITY built this sideboard to fit the kennels of three little dogs beneath. Their cages were taking up wall space that could not be usefully utilized for another purpose, so CONSTRUCTIVITY designed and built the piece to accommodate the boxes and provide storage and top space. The piece is made from maple with a dark stain and a varnish/wax finish. The legs are tapered, three drawers hold small items, and the scrolled back piece gives a nice proportion to the top.
TV Cabinet
These pictures show a large TV cabinet made especially for a particular TV, to fit into a particular space. A guy had gone a bought a big-screen TV to watch some baseball games when his wife was gone one weekend, and when she got home she had a major-league fit because it was big and ugly. Their intermediator decorator suggested a cabinet of some sort, and CONSTRUCTIVITY got the commission to save the marriage. So, not only do we do carpentry, but we do marriage counseling as well.
I lost the pics of it finished, but it had doors on either side of the TV in the lower spaces, and two drawers beneath for tapes, DVDs, etc., and a shelf above for VCR, DVD, receiver, cable box, etc. (You can see the door and drawer fronts in the right pic) It was made of oak and finished with a mahogany-type stain and varnish. I put shelves and lights in the upper side spaces, which looked nice, and it had a back on it. The thing was huge (7 ft high, 6 ft wide) and barely fit in the house through the door, and tipping it upright. It turned out to be a beautiful piece of furniture, and domestic tranquility was restored.
